EMVCo Type Approval Process

EMVCo developed the EMV Type Approval process to verify payment solutions' compliance with the EMV specifications. Type Approval testing ensures interoperability and consistent behavior across applications using EMV specifications and is divided into two levels:

• EMV Level 1 Type Approval: Verifies that terminals, cards, and mobile devices comply with electromechanical and electrostatic (contact) or analog (contactless) characteristics and logical protocol requirements defined in the EMV specifications.
• EMV Level 2 Type Approval: Tests application compliance with requirements defined in the EMV specifications.

EMVCo-recognized Laboratory

Applus+ Laboratories is recognized by EMVCo for testing and certification according to its specifications for smart cards, terminals, and mobile devices:

• EMVCo compatibility and functionality tests
• Project management with payment schemes (Visa, MasterCard, JCB, AMEX, and Discover)
• Preparation of the necessary product-certification documentation
